Educational institutions, particularly those funded or recognized by the government such as schools, colleges, and universities, are governed by Section 4(1)(b) and Section 2(h) of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. They are obliged to provide information unless exempt under Section 8.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) mandates all universities and colleges under its funding to adhere to RTI provisions. These institutions are required to appoint a designated Public Information Officer (PIO) responsible for managing RTI requests.
The RTI Act of 2005 empowers citizens to seek information from public authorities, thereby promoting transparency and accountability. Under this legislation, individuals have the right to access information regarding the functioning and decisions of public institutions.
